karl, let me get you in on a little secret- lead generation companies are in business to make money for themselves! i have never tried homeadvisor but i've tried others and they r all the same! they want your money-period! they don't care if you succeed or not, and i don't think they even care about the people who they r supposed to be helping-homeowners. it has become the most lucrative way for a big $ company to advertise that they do this and that, promise the world, and deliver peanuts. maybe, just maybe, you might find one or two companies that started early on in their programs that did good work for fair prices? that can make some $, but they r few in number compared to the rest of us that get the shaft. do yourself a favor-market yourself! advertise on your vehicles, give away small promotional stuff like a $25 restaurant card with a free estimate over a certain $ amount. i usually buy $1000 worth of restaurant cards right before Christmas because they come with perks, like an additional 40%! then give the $25's out as an incentive to draw in customers. then market whatever you r doing to neighbors. they r curious as hell when you r working on someone else's home and want to inquire anyway. don't spend good $ giving it away to some big company that pays some celeb to promote their business. how much do you think that celeb is taking in? think about it.
Unfortunately, the responses you have received bear out their mediocre track record. Previously Service Magic, now Home Advisor. Different name same lackluster performance. Their commercials imply that they will provide consumers with companies that are the "best of" whatever their specialty is, and that they are carefully vetted and it's simply not true. It's an expensive cattle call.
We used this service a while back with horrible results. We would call potential clients and if the number was a good number 50% of the time they were only expecting information not a phone call from a contractor. Definitely not worth the time or money you will invest with them.
My only experience with home advisor was a lengthy discussion on how they work which resulted in my decision NOT to use them. It’s a win win for them and cumulative fees for the contractor. They get paid just for the initial contact , you could meet with 10 homeowners who are simply shopping and you’d have to pay them for everyone .
We canceled within 72 hours, if you read the terms and conditions you give them permission to advertise in your name with their phone number. Basically making you pay for customers who were already looking for you.
Karl..Im so sorry to hear that this is happening. Have you contacted your account manager that initially got you on board? If not, I definitely suggest doing this first, they should absolutely help you you out. If you have with no result, pm me your contact info and I will do what I can to get this resolved or at least get you in touch with the right person that can.
I am a residential remodeling contractor and I get calls from Home Adviser once a week to sign up. I have talked to other contractors that had signed up with them and they said never again. The leads were horrible, just price shoppers, not reliable customers. The contractors also said it was really hard to cancel there contract with Home Advisor. Not a good lead generation company to sign up with.
I would always recommend finding a local company to design a company website and then work with them on SEO work and other Google AdWords to boost your exposure to new local based customers. I use Brew City Marketing very honest, trustworthy, and responsibly priced.
I have been in Business for 30 years and will not pay for leads I do not need to. Speaking with other business it seems they pay $55.00 or more for a lead and Home Advisor gives the same lead to 10 or more contractors. I think it is a waste of money. Establish a great reputation and business and do not work for nothing, why even do a job to break even.

I work for Angi Ads. I would love to talk to companies about what exactly we do and how we can help!
