What kind of interview questions do you ask applicants?
I am not a fan of the trite interview questions that have been around for 50 years. I feel like people have developed cookie-cutter answers to things like "Where do you see yourself in 5 years?". I'm looking for suggestions on questions to ask that really help you gauge a person's personality, drive, etc. Thank you in advance!

Tell Me about your family is a question that disarms many candidates, and quickly opens dialogue on a personal level. you get answers about children, husbands, wives, parents and pets. But what is revealed during this question can generate answers that truly show the nature of a personality.
Its not the questions I might ask the applicant, it's the the answer (from God) about the applicant I want to hear.
Tell me about your best friend, why are they your best friend?
Ask them their goals.. bc without goals we are nothing but lost individuals with no direction in life. If they dont have descriptive goals, no matter if it's work related or not, I would keep interviewing more applicants.

How about changing up the "where do you see yourself in 5 years" with "what would you devote your time and energy to if you knew you had only 5 more years to live?"
I think it will somewhat depend on the nature of your business, however, I ask questions like: What is your belief system about the process of change? Or the process of innovation?
"What do you expect to learn on this job during the first month?"
