Hi
Elizabeth, The best leads I receive are from my BNI group, a local chapter of Business Networking International. I looked up your area and found a member of a local chapter. It's called BNI Referral Net. Contact member Skip Alford of the Greater Palm Harbor Chamber of Commerce. Ask him to take you as a guest. No cost or obligation. I have written about 30%-40% of my business this year from our group here in Ohio, The BNI Cedar Point Chapter. Every week you have 60 seconds to give your commercial (elevator talk) so that the other member (they become like your sales force) can refer their customers to a trusted partner. There's planned time before the meeting for networking too. It's been the best networking organization I have belonged to! In addition, try to be active in the C of C and go to as many functions as possible. Don't be a wallflower! Find the first person you don't know and walk up to them and introduce yourself, briefly tell them what you do and ask them to tell you about their business! That makes things happen! Best of luck and good business.
I gather all the fact possible, analyze them but your gut tells you what needs to be done. It's rarely been wrong but I have when I didn't listen to it!

Please the customer first! The customer is your boss, your employer! Keeping them happy keeps you employed. Caution! In rare cases, there are times to fire a customer for being unreasonable, demanding much more time than average. If you find yourself in that situation, one needs to let the customer go and move on. Remember, you are not going to please everyone or have a workable situation with everyone. The key is to recognize it and deal accordingly. The customer is "always right unless they are wrong!" Good hunting!

I enjoy bringing some stability to my merchants in an industry with constant change. Many times have seen merchants sold on the promises of low rates to find out the fact that they signed a 3-year agreement, but the low rate only applied for the first four months! This sales approach was not just the independent salesman, but many times it is their own bank taking advantage of them! Over the last 18+ years in the Merchant Services Business (credit/debit card processing) I have brought some stability to merchant accounts. All of my accounts are assured that they will have the same service fee (cost above wholesale called Interchange) throughout our business relationship. I don't financially handcuff them to me. With a 30-day notice, they are free to move on without penalty! With the new Cash Discount Plan of processing cards, I can eliminate all their costs of processing! I enjoy working with merchants, educating them as to the lowest system to process their business and made many new friends in the process! I love going to work everyday!!!

Being in the merchant Services, I have great news for anyone who excepts credit /debit cards! All merchants in any business can continue to accept those payments AND eliminate all the costs of processing them! Yes, all the costs of processing! It has proven to be the program with the largest impact on merchants' bottom line in my 18 + years in this business! The "Cash Discount Plan" legally allows, in every state throughout the US, the merchant to pass along all or part of the cost of processing cards. (You must use a processing company setup using the approved card systems) The merchant can choose to pay a small monthly fee of $15 and the processing company adds a "service fee" to the transaction. The service fee goes directly to the processor to pay the cost of processing the cards. The merchant sees no further fees. Think of the savings! I have merchants ask me "how much will I save?" I simple ask them how much they paid to their bank/processor last year. Lets say they paid $25,000 to process sales. They can save $25,000 minus the $180 in monthly fees, $39 annual fee and the rest is savings. That will SAVE THEM $24,781! Yes it is now legal and approved by the card companies due to a settlement of this issue with recent legislation. ( I can provide you all the legal details) I works like this; a merchant posts signs stating that all prices are based on a cash purchase. The use of a credit or debit cards are welcome but a service will be added to the sale. The merchant will chose, when setting up the program, that service fee with the processor. If the merchant wants to pass along all the processing fees, this service fee could range from 3.49% - 4.00%. If the merchant wants to only charge the cardholder using the card, say 2.00%, then the merchant would be charged the difference in the established service fee. Over the past year, I have place many merchants on this plan. They are located from large cities to small villages. They have reported no significant change in business EXCEPT saving thousands of dollars. I have merchants located throughout the US. If you want to have a large impact to your profit, look into the "cash discount plan" card processing! If you want more info from my office, email dave@daveproy.com or call 877-840-PROY (7769).

My biggest issue is finding the right people to work on a website. Keeping it current without spending a ton of money. I'd would ultimately, like a site that I could add minor content myself. It is very frustrating to need changes or added info and no one responds for days or weeks. Being a one person office, I can't afford a $2500 monthly retainer for ecommerce specialist. At this point, I don't market by relying on the website to bring customers. It's informational for the prospects I send there. I have new programs available and I couldn't get them listed with links on my site. I might have solved this situation this past week but it's a wait and see!

The first month I was in the Credit Card Processing Business 18 years ago, I was traveling down Rt 4 heading from Sandusky to a meeting in Columbus. I got to just north of Attica and a hose broke and steam was coming out of my hood. I rolled into this little garage behind some houses. Painters Garage. They stopped what they were doing and helped me get back on the road right away. I tried to pay with my credit card and I was told they didn't accept them. They were thinking of taking them but didn't know who to call. (this was when very few people were in the business) With that fact, I explained that that was what I did, and how it worked. They became my first customer and they are still with my service 18 years later! Who has their first customer still doing business with them? I'd love to hear your story!

I'm in the highly competitive world of merchant services. I am very proud to say I have the 1st merchant I signed 18 years ago! My retention rate is over 90, which is very high for this business. Personal service and keeping in touch with my merchants, along with low (not always the lowest) consistent pricing has been the factors in my customer retention. The Merchant Services business is known for what is called rate creep, or what is called "buying business". Rate creep is where the merchant is quoted a low rate, signed to a 3 year contract and then the rate goes up, could be several times a year, where the merchant paying higher rates than when he started. Same happens with "buying Business'. I've seen banks go out and give a below cost rate to merchants but fail to tell them it's only for a say 4 month period but sign them to a 3 year agreement. 6 months later, they are paying more than they were when they changed. My merchants are "locked in" to a fixed fee over the wholesale rate called Interchange. Honesty and service retains your clients!
