But in addition to being the best amp repair shop in Atlanta, Jeff also makes his own line of the most awesome guitar amps I've ever played. Every amp guy I've ever met has always tried to build "the holy grail" - an amp with a Marshall sounding dirty channel and a Fender sounding clean channel. Well Jeff nailed that with his Paradyne series. And I love mine! "

I tend to feel like the companies who take the time to create and maintain a consistent brand image also have the best practices in place. So I would say that yes I generally see better work product from companies that have uniforms. But that could just be my perception. But for my business, the first thing that I would look for is personality and the ability to focus/ listen intently to one person. The second thing I would look for is someone who can talk. Then lastly I might look for someone who has those 3 qualities and who's maybe been in the industry for a while and is feeling like maybe they're "too old to be swinging a hammer anymore." Then I might offer that long term guy a raise and a bonus structure based on sales numbers to get into the other side of the business. I was in sales for years and I made a lot of money doing it. I can tell you from first hand experience that the best sales guys can sell anything regardless of what it is/does. It's all about their personality.

Of course. That's what they can see. It's the only metric aside from client reviews that can be used to judge. (more) Of course. That's what they can see. It's the only metric aside from client reviews that can be used to judge.

You can work on overcoming the introverted fear and embrace the sales path and all of the big personality that career path requires, or you can choose another career.  If sales something you feel compelled to do then I would recommend joining a networking group that requires public speaking weekly. Toastmasters is great for that. And in Atlanta we have PowerCore. In fact, Wendy Kenny, the owner of PowerCore has a fantastic story about her own journey to overcome shyness and become a brilliant public speaker. I'd bet she could sell water to drowning man.

I'm still pretty new to Alingable. But I wound up getting hired for a job right after I signed up because someone recommended me. So I think there's value in Alignable as a referral source. But I haven't really put enough time or effort into this to really generate any real results from it yet.  (more) I'm still pretty new to Alingable. So I needed to get an unrestricted low voltage license from the state of GA to comply with state regulations. I had to attend classes, and take a 4 hour exam to prove that I know what I'm doing in order to get my license. But before I could do any of that I had to go through miles of red tape and a process that took me 3 years just to get approved to take the test. The state of GA makes is WAAAAY too hard on those who are trying to go about doing things the right way. And then they don't even enforce the laws for those who are not forming their businesses properly. In my 30+ years in the industry the only time I've ever seen any enforcement of the requirement far having a low voltage license was 2 years ago with a colleague who was in the process of getting his license. When he applied the made him pay a fine because he had been operating without one. Other than that they don't care.
