Do you prefer digital photographs or prints?

I feel I must print, the larger the better.  It’s important to print and view, enjoy and share your work.  Digital files are great for social media and to show people what you’re up to.

I actually like both, but there's always something different about prints :-)  Especially when they get enlarged and hung on a wall.

Both. Nothing is the same as seeing family pictures on the wall. I save them as digital. For me it is the same reason we saved the slides or negatives years ago..

It's print media for me!  People who rely only on digital are one day going to be disappointed because their digital versions have been lost, corrupted, degraded, or destroyed.  I know many people who have digital images on CDs or DVDs, yet today's PC's/Macs don't usually come with a CD/DVD player.  How long before that media is absolute (think about Beta and VHS tapes, or floppy discs)?

Another issue with digital is how will people view them in the future.  Say someone takes a vacation this year and 10 years later the family is gathered and someone askes about the pictures from that vacation.  Will the owner be able to find them?  Pull them up on a TV screen?  If they can be found, does everyone want to see them?  How long will each image be shown?  And, I'm sure you can ask a lot of other similar questions.

Often times when there is a family gathering or vacation that I  take pictures of, I like to print them in a coffee table type book.  Sometimes I'll print an album.  These are easy to store and easy to pull from a bookshelf or storage box.  And, people like to pass them around and look at the pictures at their pace. 

Daily or fun snapshots I  handle by either gathering "like" photographs (like snapshots of my dogs) and printing a hardbound coffee table type book or just printing 4X6" pictures that can be stored together for looking at later.

Prints are important because of family.  Whenever family is together it is always fun and something that will evoke emotion to have printed pictures for everyone to look at.  There is also the tactile side of it.  To be able to touch an image is a completely different emotion than seeing it on a screen.

Sorry to be rambling, but it really is important for a family legacy to have printed images.

Note: I'm a photographer and have both digital and printed images.  However, the printed images that have the most meaning to me as well as my family and friends.

Each has its place. Digital pictures allow you to have multiple pictures of a place or event, but I would not want to have so many prints of the same thing. Prints are great for displaying around the house, sending personalized greeting cards, and sharing with family (specially older family members).

Both.  I still like print for special moments for wall and desk displays. I no longer print all for albums.  Having all in digital format allows you to use them with different social media as wells and enhance.

I love prints!   With my Send Out Cards Business, I find that most people LOVE to get a card that has a frameable photo taken from facebook or instagram.  When I get one, it goes right in a frame to last forever. I appreciate them and I think others do as well.

I make prints in editions of 10 images and post smaller jpegs on social media. My prints are digital because they are collages of 3 to 7 images created in Photoshop.   www.roslynrose.com
