Do you prefer a client with no knowledge of your product or service and you get to build them up, or do you like a client that has a foundation in your product or service?
Either type of client is valuable, but in different ways.
For those that tried their hand at marketing, but realize they need a specialist to grow, allows me to open a whole new world to them. Suggesting products and image building concepts allows the client to visualize their future. Building a rapport is critical to working with those who know what they want, but can't figure out how to get it. Competition is tough in our area. My job is to get the client's products and services into the conversation.
Clients without preconceived ideas or visions are great to work with also. This scenario allows me to really get to know the client and their business vision. Then I can guide them on the suitability of marketing materials to develop a professional image and begin to establish their business brand. Starting with a professional and strong foundation is important to developing credibility and branding.
My Business is To Make Your Business Look Good, not matter which stage of business development the client is in.
As a piano/voice teacher, I usually get beginner students. But, also, older students who might have some experience. I love teaching, so I welcome all!
As a jazz singer, I would love to get some local gigs, and would prefer a client that appreciates jazz!
Before I get started I should say the ideal client is the one who pays on time.
Now with that out of the way...
I love a client who understands that what we do is a collaborative process. During pre-production we should actively discuss ideas, motives and intended results.
Once we get into the production phase, its always nice when a client understands that they chose me, or my company, for a reason. Its now time for my team to do our jobs. Trust our background, experience and expertise. If everything was communicated well during pre-pro, then you will get the result you wanted.

Both, I love first timers but it is also fun to impress experienced flyers with my superior skills! Just like customers ;-)
As long as the client has an open mind and a willingness to do something different in order to reach their goal, I love working with them.
I like working with Nice clients. We somehow attract plenty of not nice clients on our own, so our preference is that they are nice :-)
I prefer a customer who wants to be engaged through the entire process
With out thinking there are the expert
Obviously, a client that already understands your value prop is the ideal, but client “education” is part of the process of presenting a value prop.
A Client that is bursting with as much energy and enthusiasm as I have.
The smarter the better.
