What methods can you suggest to boost my brand to get my photography business out there?

Hello to everyone! Thanks for opening my question.

I am a professional photographer located in Cape Coral, where I've lived for nearly 13 years (after moving from Fort Myers Beach). My studio is fully mobile and, since I need only a small space to work in, getting an updated head shot can be done right in your office or nearby, for convenience. It literally takes only a few minutes.

It's true that a photo is worth 1000 words. In today's world, a photo can literally make or break you. It can mean the difference between getting that new client or them going elsewhere. That's where I come in. Not only am I extremely passionate about photography, I'm also really good at it (at least I think I am) and truly want to make others look their best!

I am competitively priced, offer various background choices, a full grasp of posing and lighting to flatter, masterful editing and a fast turn-around of the edited images. I have perfect client ratings on Google, Facebook and Thumbtack. I'm also a member of the Cape Chamber of Commerce.

As I'm trying to create brand awareness, can you suggest a method of boosting my brand to get my name out there? What has worked for you?

Feel free to check www.TSGallantPhotography.com , for examples of my work, if it will help guide me (or you/someone you know).

Hi, this is something that doesn’t just have one answer.  It has a lot of components.  First of all, is your brand clearly defined?  Logo, colors, fonts, design?  Are they consistent on your website and all social channels?  How we dress is also part of our “brand.” You might be the bow tie photographer or funky sneaker guy.  All of that can help separate you from your competition.  It’s inportant for your mesaage and brand to remain consistent.  Next is networking.  Hustle and meet new potential clients wherever you are.  I have my brand magnets on the side of my car and everywhere I go someone always stops and asks about my business which opens up getting strangers contact information.  Follow up....with all of your clients contact info filed somewhere, are you using email marketing to reach them and remind them of you?  That’s a huge deal.  We’re not milk so we are considered a luxury and often folks don’t realize they need us until we pop up on their social feeds or in their inbox. remember, brand recognition doesn’t happen overnight or even in a year, but if you stay consistent and remain visible you’ll start to see results.  Good luck :)

In addtition to the awesome comments and yes you do great work. Perhaps it's time to think about doing an end around. That's an old football term from years ago as a high school QB. Things I've come to know is that Branding may not be the issue. Time could be the factor. Pick a path, and continue to share your services through those like minded people that you already work with such as Schools, Families, Local Non-profits, other business assocaiations. ect. (Groups already mentioned). Think of yourself as a farmer. You don't get to plant a great seed one day and harvest in a week. This process as you know, take Tiiiimmmmmmmmmmeeeeee.

Over time, I found out about other industries such as Tourism and the Convention Business. That's a whole new world of possibilities. Imagine being at an event with 200 - 500 attendees where each one is a potential prospect for more convention business and as a default, Portraits, Wedding, Students, and the kind of images you never thought you would be photographing. Like, in my case, construction documentation.

The brand is not the images but the person producing the images. We are the Brand. People are choosing us because of how we make them feel when we are in their presence.  And we do great work as the added bonus. Maybe it's as simple as continuing to demonstrate how much you love what you do. Clients can feel that energy sometimes more than a cool layout. Be flexible.

One of my mentors always reminds us that if you're in business and not making a profit, you're going out of business.

I belong to the Cape Coral Chamber as well.  If I did your type of photography, I would contact the chamber staff and offer to come to a chamber luncheon, set up your portable studio and do head shots for business people at a reduced rate.  And then maybe have a special offer to those businesses at the luncheon to shoot their other employees at their location for a special price. By the way, I'm always looking for good photographers to refer people to who want me to do weddings, families, senior portraits, etc.  Those are things I don't and won't do so having good photographers who I can pass on referrals is wonderful for me!

One of the best things that I have found over twenty-five years is your portfolio. I think that you will receive more work from word of mouth, than anything that you can do in advertising. I am not saying that you should not be out knocking on doors, but you are just wasting your time if you are not going after the right clients. Find your niche; then it will be easy to find your next clients by marketing only to those and continue to create new work. A great portfolio will lead you down the right path every time. Your best client is the one that keeps coming back year after year, and most of them will come from exciting work. Keep up the good work!

There have been various forms of the same question out there since day one. It sounds like you provide a professional product. In this day an age of social media. Keep your name out there with samples of a project you just completed. For me I have a "Last night at the Office", I use for all of my theatre, dance and symphony work. It keeps my name out there and right now I am at about 99% returning customers. I have talked to many and I do mean many branding / advertising companies. This is what they do for you. But, after 37 years in the business you can do it your self too.

I lived on Pine island and in Ft. Myers for years and know there are a lot of local mags/papers that would jump at the chance to have some quality photos taken for their articles. As long as they give you credit you will be getting advertising and even a free ad for doing it. You are in a great area for this with all the beaches and events going on. Good luck!

As an image development specialist and a photographer and video producer, I can say that your website should be your number one priority. It should show you as you want to be seen.

It should have a blog feature that you understand and use consistently. When you make a blog entry, you should post a teaser and a link to all of your social media accounts.

I use incentives with my clients. Anyone who refers a client to me gets a free slideshow as a bonus, for example. You might try something similar.

The best way to get visibility is to keep doing the BEST work that will always set you apart from competition.

Happy clients are always glad to show off what you did for them, so make sure they have several of your business cards leading new prospectives to that engaging website that showcases your expertise.

I am also a photographer and videographer.  I coach, consult and teach classes to small businesses, real estate agents and firms how to market with YouTube video and  connect it into their social media  marketing plan.  It’s like a mini commercial about yourself followed up by some client testimonials. You can then use this video for your signature on all of your emails, newsletters or promotions.
