I didn't have a clue how to write a book in my first attempt, so told true stories and intertwined Peggy in the scenes. My cousin was interested in producing a movie, but said there wasn't enough information in the story. I told her I was working on the second book. After reading the beginning, she said I needed structure.  After three years and twelve drafts, Secrets, won the Bronze Independent Book Publisher Award in the US. My friend, Pat Thomas, edited my third book in the series and she is a gold mine of information if you would like her assistance. So between the two of us, we can help from start to finish. Don't hesitate to call. Contact me for a time and phone number. It's a lot easier talking than emailing. Ivan

As picture framers, our policy is that every customer leaves happy. That includes the best selection, quality and price. Sadly, every framer has had a disaster and we have had a few during our forty-four years in business. Once, we concluded a piece decided it was more favourable to try living on Mars because it simply vanished from our shop. I informed the customer. She wasn't impressed. I apologized for leaving the key in the ignition of our space craft and said, "Now, what can we do to make you happy? Would you like one of my watercolors to replace it?" She jumped for joy. We are a cheerful group as well. A number of clients have said it's worth the entertainment alone to come here.

Please pick up your work by (set a date) with payment or unfortunately we'll be forced sell the piece to recoup our expenses. If for unforeseen circumstances, you are unable to pay in full, we take payments or you may send a number of new customers our way. For each new customer, we'll give (20% or whatever you decide) off their custom framing and apply it to your account until payment is made in full. Then you may take your piece with you. Be creative and try to help the customer. Add a little humour. It works wonders.

Of course there's social media, but that hasn't been overly successful in my case. It brings attention, but not a lot of sales. Lastly, e-books and Kindle. Hope this is helpful.

A few pieces have increased considerably in value, although we have no intention of selling, at least at this point. Art can be a good investment. The problem is knowing what will increase in value...just like the stock market. Here's an exceptional case. Maud Lewis, from Marshalltown, Nova Scotia, sold her folk art pieces for $2.00 and eventually up to $5.00 before passing in 1970. Today they fetch between $7 and $20 thousand. One sold for a grand total of $45.000. So a word to the wise, today, you may purchase one of my new Plyatism 4x6 original acrylic paintings for $25.00 (matted). Stock up now so in the future when they take off like Maud's, you'll cash in big time. Haaa!

Easy. We always ask how new customers found us. Tell your present clients if they send...say five new customers, you'll give them something free in return. Depends on what you can offer. It was easy for the picture framing. we gave a percentage off or a free framing job. (more) Easy. We always ask how new customers found us. When business flourished in the 80's radio and Yellow Pages worked great. My best ad was created from a wrong number. When I answered the phone with, "Ivan Fraser Custom Framing," the lady said, "Oh, I'm sorry I have the wrong number. I quickly replied with something like this,"No you don't if you want 40% off on your custom picture framing, guaranteed satisfaction, free parking and a chance to win a free painting." She laughed and we had a great chat. The ad was a booming success. Just an idea for you.

If art and creativity would have been on the menue, school and I may have bonded. After failing Grade 4, 9 and about to fail Grade 10, school and I parted ways. Being a touch dyslexic, left handed and born January 13 didn't boost my educational skills. Add to that my father's encouragement. He said I was a Fly Brain because I never stuck to anything. Maybe it was that annoying ADHD that plagued me? In spite of those outstanding traits, my first three self-published Peggy of the Cove books became Canadian best sellers. The fourth Ransomed was just released in May so we'll have to wait and see how that one goes. Historical fiction would best describe Peggy of the Cove books. Windywood Publishing picked up The Adventures of Ivan which is what I call my corny book. You may see a number of samples at https://business.facebook.com/... and learn more about Peggy of the Cove at www.peggyofthecove.com . Hope this encourages any wanna be writers to take the plunge.

At one point my framed 1/2 sheet watercolors (20x28 inch frame) sold for $750.00. It's been years since one has sold. When demand for an artists work increases the price, it's not a wise thing to lower the price when there is an economic downturn. In the Maritime Provinces of Canada, art for the average artist has dropped drastically. It's either modest price or high end art that seems to be moving. The below answers are great, and I'm using most of the suggestions, but my new works are colorful, different and more than affordable. Most sales are generated by word of mouth and social media. My website is a presence, but doesn't bring sales like I had hoped. So, maybe exciting work by new artists that is affordable for the average family will work for you. It has for me with over 270 paintings sold since July 12 of 2016 when my first Plyatism painting sold. Check out Plyatism on Google or visit ivanfraser.ca. Hope this helps. Ivan
