I would be honest that you are "new on the block" make sure that your website has information about other related experiences that would make you intriguing to get to know and potentially competent to do the services/products you are selling. You might also do a video on the work you are currently doing or start a blog. You will have to do some promotions or offer free products so potential customers will be able to sample your expertise and its benefits.

Know what you provide, ask questions from others to find prospects who need what you provide, ask questions to prospects who you meet with to determine what the needs really are, lastly present the solutions in the form of questions that help the prospect determine if you are the right fit.  And be the first person to state if you are not the right solution.  If you can steer the prospect to someone who is the better solution, in the long run, it will pay you back unexpected dividends (but be really patient with that part).  At least thats been my model.  All the best, John

Hi, me again! A few more thoughts ... do you have an elevator pitch? A concise, direct description of WHAT you do and WHY? Here's why I'm asking: on your Alignable page, you use an "accountant" tag. But looking at your website, it seems you're a technology recruiter. Keep everything very simple and consistent across all platforms.

I  would also suggest add a tagline to help clarify EXACTLY what you do. "Technology Solutions" (to me) is a company who can help me with my specific technology issues, not help me hire other people to do it.

Of course your services are needed! But make sure your message is CLEAR to the RIGHT people IMMEDIATELY so you don't lose them.  :)

Have you narrowed down and defined YOUR target market? Once you have, contact them directly and introduce yourself so your name and services gets out there. You have to be assertive about letting people know you are in business and can solve their problem(s) x, y and z.

Don't assume people will put it all together, do it for them.

Create memes for social media that introduce your services. Do NOT always sell in every outreach. Aggressive selling turns people off. Educate and share (even funny stuff, lord knows we need it!).

Are there any local people you could partner up with and get exposure to each other's email list/clients?

Get your name out there doing thought leadership seminars and writing thought leadership articles.  A company newsletter is also helpful in getting your name in front of prospects.  I have found out that writing has become a lost art.  Frequently, I get contacted by various publications for thought provoking articles.  That said unless the topics are well thought out, writing a bad article can generate "negative goodwill".  Being successful at bringing in business is really about being yourself and having a planned approach to communication that creates a high perception of value.  Clients want to work with a professional firm which they feel understands their goals and issues and has the ability to provide relevant solutions.  Remember, "thought without action is simple daydreaming".  Wayne C. The lack of past performance is a common startup condition particularly challenging for a small business in government contracting.  I often advise a new organization or one that is new to government contracting on how to muster a response to the past performance challenge.

The following are approaches I have seen work, not only for government contracting, but also generically in commercial business as well.

The answer lies in historical projects that may be similar in the commercial arena and a high quality proposal that clearly demonstrates an understanding of the requirement at hand, a unique and cost effective project plan and high performing personnel and/or products tailored to the statement of work to offset an interim, light past performance record.

Insure your web site, your capability statement and your marketing plans are maintained current alive and dynamically reflective of your successes as you pursue new business and carefully develop your library of past performance records by project with accessible profiles to use in your government proposals.
