Easy and intuitive navigation, as well as an obvious, secure and simple payment process.
Foremost, an eCommerce Website should be designed for optimal user experience (UX). Fast loading, easy to navigate, content that clearly describes and shows a product or service are critical elements in good eCommerce Website design.
Also, a seamless shopping and check-out flow ensure successful online sales. The fewer clicks a consumer needs to make, the more likely they'll complete a purchase.
These are only two essential components needed to set up a successful eCommerce platform.

Hmm we hear from consumers and companies alike every day. We've found that one of the biggest challenges our online companies face is getting the consumer to complete the sale. Many times I've heard that the cart was loaded but the purchase just didn't take place. Today's consumers are savvy, they cannot afford to lose money, especially now and especially not with an unknown business. In the end, quick load time and easy/clear navigation and pretty pictures are great but does that close the sale? If the company is trusted you go to the site, add your stuff to the cart, go to the checkout, put in your credit card and boom you're done-no questions asked. The question might be how do you inspire trust online? The answer may be BBB Accreditation. Start with Trust!
So many things go into making an ECommerce site work, but technical details such as mobile-friendliness and site security are foundations from which to build.
Even for e-commerce sites, it's more than the site design that closes the sale. There needs to be something getting people to your site (marketing, content, SEO, etc.) That aside, the strength of the brand, customer experience (including UX) and a well-thought-out sales funnel is key. ;)
When I shop online (which is a lot) I like it to be easy to search or browse. I love the pictures but with more detail than just a one side view. I also look at what others thought about that item. I also will repeat shop when a store changes things up. LOVE the catchy ads that show up in my email enticing me to stop and shop right away. I think I need shoppers anonymous LOL
Detailed descriptions, ease of use, clear categories, and subcategories. Also, just an aesthetically pleasing layout/color scheme is essential for e-commerce sites to be successful in closing the sale

The two factors: user experience (UX) and design are just as important as the site speed. Of course, many web designers work hard to create a site that doesn't have top notch SEO done, making it hardly functional. Be sure that you have your SEO specialist work hard, dig deep, and come up with a SEO strategy that will deliver results.
We have SEO Blueprint process where we do keyword research, make a plan for implementation, get that approved by client, then implement that on the site. We do this about 4 to 8 times per month for my clients.
TRUST is#1: Tell them who you are, where you are, and that you are reachable and reasonable. People won't buy simply based on the best price and standard website functionality.
People need reassurance, and since the human element is often lacking these days, it goes a long way when emphasized.
